What is Atrophic Scars/Enlarged Pores?

Atrophic scars are depressed or sunken scars that form when the skin is unable to regenerate tissue after injury or inflammation. They are commonly caused by severe acne, chickenpox, or surgical wounds.

Enlarged pores are visible openings of hair follicles on the skin’s surface that appear bigger than usual. They are not scars but may appear similar in texture and often coexist with oily or acne-prone skin.

What Causes Atrophic Scars/Enlarged Pores?

Atrophic Scars/Enlarged Pores may be caused by:

  • Severe Acne: Inflammatory acne can damage skin tissue and prevent proper healing.
  • Chickenpox or Injuries: Skin infections or trauma can leave behind sunken scars.
  • Loss of Collagen: Insufficient collagen production during healing causes the skin to dip inward.
  • Improper Wound Healing: Delayed or improper healing can lead to tissue depression.
  • Medical Conditions: Certain skin conditions or treatments can impair tissue regeneration.
