A chemical peel is a skin-resurfacing procedure in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin to exfoliate and remove the top layers. The regenerated skin is usually smoother, clearer, and more youthful in appearance. Peels can be light, medium, or deep depending on the skin concern and depth of treatment.

About Chemical Peel
Chemical peels use different types of acids—such as glycolic acid, salicylic acid, lactic acid, trichloroacetic acid (TCA), or phenol—to exfoliate the skin. The intensity and type of peel used depend on the skin issue being treated, such as acne, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, or sun damage. The procedure is often performed in clinics or dermatology centers and can take between 15 minutes to an hour.

People who are suitable for chemical peels include those with:
- Mild to moderate acne or acne scars

Who is not Suitable for Chemical Peel Treatment?
Chemical peels may not be suitable for individuals who:
- Have active skin infections, eczema, or open wounds
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding (depending on peel type)
- Have very dark skin (for deep peels, due to risk of hyperpigmentation)
- Are currently using Accutane or have recently used it (within 6–12 months)
- Have a history of keloids or abnormal scarring
- Have undergone recent facial surgery or radiation therapy

Downtime
Downtime varies based on the depth of the peel:
- Light peels: Minimal downtime, slight redness or peeling for 1–3 days
- Medium peels: Redness, swelling, and peeling for 5–7 days
- Deep peels: Significant peeling, crusting, and redness that can last 10–14 days or more
It’s important to follow aftercare instructions during the healing period to prevent infection and scarring.

POST-TREATMENT:
- Avoid sun exposure and always use SPF 30 or higher
- Do not pick, peel, or scratch the treated skin
- Keep the skin moisturized with gentle, hydrating products
- Avoid harsh skincare (retinoids, scrubs, alcohol-based toners) for at least a week
- Cleanse with mild, non-abrasive cleansers
- Follow your practitioner’s guidance for post-treatment products and routines
Healing is part of the process, and full results often become visible after several days to weeks, especially with deeper peels.
